The Big Short Challenge (TBSC) has evolved into one of India’s most consistent and credible short film discovery platforms, with strong participation across regions and languages.
Previous Editions:
Launched as a national short film challenge, marking the beginning of TBSC as an audience-facing discovery platform.
Focused on emerging voices from across India, including strong participation from the North East.
Kerala-focused edition with 250+ registrations and 75+ curated short film entries, establishing TBSC as a serious regional property.
Tamil edition that witnessed record participation, with 300+ filmmaker registrations, expanding the platform’s regional footprint.
The Malayalam edition saw 450+ filmmaker registrations, with the winning filmmaker’s next film currently in development on the ABC Talkies platform.
With each season, TBSC has strengthened its focus on audience validation, filmmaker ownership, and career progression, leading into the 6th edition across Tamil & Malayalam markets

What is the Production Grant and how is it used?
The Production Grant is financial support provided to selected filmmakers to fund their next short film. Usage details and milestones will be shared with the winners.
Can I submit more than one film?
Yes. Multiple entries are allowed, provided each film meets eligibility and submission requirements.
What proof is required for Best Shot on Mobile?
Shortlisted films may be asked to submit mobile device details, file metadata, and/or behind-the-scenes material to verify mobile-only production.
How does Best AI Film work?
Filmmakers submitting under this category must declare AI usage and select the tools used from a predefined list during submission.
What are the eligibility requirements?
- Tamil or Malayalam language short films
- Produced after 1st January 2025
- Duration between 5–40 minutes
- Exclusive to ABC Talkies during the challenge period
Can my film be released elsewhere after TBSC?
Films must remain exclusive to ABC Talkies during the TBSC period. Post-event availability will be governed by platform policy.
